LIFETIME RESIDENT DIES AT AGE 78

Henderson, Neb. — Bernhard (Ben) Peters, who was born here Oct. 8, 1881 and spent his entire life in this community, died at the Schmidt rest home in York on Jan.. 19.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bethesda Mennonite church of Henderson, where the funeral services were to be conducted on Jan. 23. He had entered the rest home only ten days before his death.

BERNHARD PETERS

Bernhard Peters, son of Dietrich J. and Anna Friesen Peters, was born on Oct.8, 1881 at Henderson, Neb. He was baptized and received into the Bethesda Mennonite church, Henderson, on May 18, 1902 by Elder Peter J. Friesen. He remained a faithful member of this church until his death Jan. 19, 1960.

He was married to Anna Steingardt [sic Steingard] on Feb. 4, 1904. To this union were born four children: Three daughters, Anna, Mrs. Henry H. Harms of Newton, Kan., Eva, Mrs. Charles W. Barker of El Dorado, Kan., Tina [sic Tina], Mrs. Lee O. Lansz [sic Lantz] of San Diego, Calif.; and one son, Ruben of Lincoln, Neb.

Mr. Peters was a resident of the Henderson community all his life. He was engaged in farming until his retirement, when he moved to Henderson, a community he liked and where he felt at home. All his life he spent much time out of doors. He loved his grandchildren very much and spoke of them often as he would mention his family.

He had been in failing health in the past year. He spent a month in the Henderson Community hospital before living with his son Ruben for several weeks. Then he went to the Schmidt Rest Home in York where he passed away. His wife, Anna, preceded him in death more than 14 years ago.

Mr. Peters is survived by his four children; three sons-in-law, Henry H. Harms, Charles W. Barker, Lee O. Lantz; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers and three sisters, Henry Peters of Marlin, Wash., Isaac Peters of Dallas, Oregon, George Peters of West Salem, Oregon, Mrs. Joe (Anne) Walter of Monroe, Wash., Mrs. Pete (Helena) Schrag of Dallas, Oregon, Mrs. C. C. (Lizzie) Goosen [sic Gossen] of Dallas, Oregon.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Anna, three brothers and one sister, John Peters of Newport, Wash., Dietrich Peters of Ritzville, Wash., Jake Peters of York, Nebr., and Mrs. Jake Rempel of Saskatchwan, Canada.
