— Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Peters, 86, a resident here for 72 years, were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Mennonite church, Rev. D. J. Unruh and Rev. J. E. Entz officiating. She passed away Sunday evening at the home on South Pine street. Mrs. Peters was a native of Germany, and was married here to Abram Peters on May 17, 1885. He died in 1926. Surviving are three daughters. Mrs. J. I. Schroeder, Martha Peters, and Mrs. Herman Janzen, all of Newton, 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

ANNA (ENZ) PETERS

Anna Enz Peters, widow of the late Abram Peters, was born in Neuminsterberg, West Prussia, Germany, April 9, 1867 and died in Newton, Kansas Nov. 8, 1953 aged 86 years, six months and 30 days. She was the youngest child of Johan and Justine Fast Enz. She received her education in Neuminsterberg, West Prussia. In 1881, she together with the parents and the entire family came to America and they made their home at Newton, Kansas.

On May 20, 1883, she was baptized by elder Leonard Suderman and became a member of the First Mennonite church, Newton. When the Tabor Mennonite church was organized, she and her husband joined that church and were members there until 1928 when she returned to the First Mennonite church in Newton, where she remained a member until the time of her death.

On May 17, 1885, she was united in marriage with Abram Peters, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1925. To this union nine children were born; one died in infancy and the oldest son also preceded her in death.

She was a loving mother and an earnest Christian endeavoring to teach and direct her children in the way of life. The past few years her health was poor. She was tenderly cared for by her daughter, Martha, who made her home with her mother in Newton where she departed to be with the Lord.

The following children survive to mourn her departure: John and wife of Newton, Ernest, Arthur, and Herman and their wives, Walton, Anna and husband Jacob Schroeder, Newton, Linda and husband Herman Janzen, Walton, Martha of the home and Mrs. Mary Peters, Pratt, Kansas. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, besides many nieces, nephews and friends.
