ARGENTINA MOURNS DEATH OF EVA PERON

Seldom has history recorded such great national mourning over the death of a woman as occurred in Argentina when Eva Peron, 33-year-old wife of President Juan Peron, died July 26. Death was due to cancer.

Four persons were crushed to death and some 3,000 injured as the mourners filed past Mrs. Peron's bier. Flowers — an estimated two million dollars work — covered the streets and carpeted the floor of the Labor Ministry building where the body lay in state. Government officials said she would have “the most impressive funeral in all history.”

The death of Eva Peron is not likely to improve U.S.-Argentine relations, however, for under her control the powerful General Confederation of Labor (one-third of the nation's population) was ruled by Marxists and will likely stay that way.
