MRS. D. J. PENNER

Mary Wiens Penner of Hillsboro, Kansas was born Feb. 18, 1901, at Henderson, Neb., and died June 19. 1953, at the Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton, Kansas. She was the second child of J. J. and Helena Wiens, Hillsboro.

When she was 13 years old, she was converted, baptized and joined the M. B. church in Henderson, in which community she grew up.

On Aug. 5, 1920, she was united in holy wedlock to D. J. Penner. They lived near Henderson for several years and then moved to Hillsboro, where she lived until her death. Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Henry Penner of rural Hillsboro, Malinda, a teacher, and Donald David, who preceded her in death Dec. 28, 1948, in an automobile accident.

Since the automobile accident she had never been entirely well, but the last year of failing health and her death were caused by leukemia.

She leaves her sorrowing husband, David J. Penner; two daughters, Esther and Malinda; one son in-law, Henry Penner; two grand-daughters; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wiens; one sister, Mrs. H. H. Thiessen of Hampton, Neb. and one brother, J. B. Wiens of Hillsboro, and their families; nine brothers and sisters-in-law and their families, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted June 23 at the Hillsboro, M. E. church where she was a member. Rev. Waldo Hiebert and Rev. J. J. Gerbrandt officiated. Interment was made in the Hillsboro cemetery.
