PIONEER BUSINESS MAN OF HILLSBORO COMMUNITY DIED

Hillsboro, Kans. — Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church here on Feb. 13 for John C. Penner, 82, one of the early day businessmen of this community.

After coming to this country from Russia in 1877, he attended the Hope Valley school. He engaged in various business enterprises here, and later established a meat market and grocery which we operated for many years. In later years he produced and distributed the widely known Penn-Pork sausage, which was a specialty in many restaurants.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Arthur, Paul, Wilbur, and J. C. Jr.; one daughter, Mrs. Otto Schroeder; and a sister, Mrs. P. A. Flaming.
