JACOB PENNER

Jacob Penner, son of John and Helena Schroeder Penner, was born in Harvey county, Newton, Kansas, on August 12, 1883, and departed this life to be with Christ his Saviour on July 18, 1955, attaining the age of 71 years, 11 months and 6 days.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on June 23, 1901, by Rev. J. R. Toeves in the Grace hill church.

He received his education in an elementary school and later attended Bible school at Hillsboro, Kansas.

He entered into holy matrimony with Anita Schroeder on march 25, 1915. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. He was engaged in farming all his life and enjoyed his work. The Lord blessed his efforts and he was able to provide well for his family.

In 1916 he bought a farm in Washita county, 10 miles southeast of Clinton, Oklahoma. Later the family affiliated with the Herold Mennonite church near Bessie, Oklahoma, where he was a member until his death. In this community the family lived for almost 40 happy years.

On February 25, 1955, he became seriously ill and had to submit to a major operation. He never fully recovered from this illness and so submitted to another operation July 8 in Wichita, Kansas. He lived 10 days after this operation. Complications set in which caused his death. He was at peace in his soul, trusting his Saviour that all was well. He prayed much and repeated many old hymns and Bible verses.

The family had many blessed hours together when he would read the Bible or a good story book in the evenings.

On September 4, 1954, at the marriage of our daughter, Dorothy, he had a great reunion with all his brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, which proved to be his last reunion with them.

On July 18 he was permitted to fall asleep quietly to awaken in the presence of his Saviour.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and was much devoted to his family. He especially had much joy to see his seven grandchildren grow up and make decisions to follow the Lord. After his operation he recovered enough strength to witness three of his grandchildren confess Christ in baptism.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Mrs. Jacob Penner, Clinton, Oklahoma, two daughters and one son, Ruth, Mrs. Hilmar Voth, Newton, Kan., John Penner, Clinton, Okla., Dorothy Darlene, Mrs. Joe Janz, Inola, Oklahoma; two sons-in-law; Hilmar T. Voth and Joe Janz, and one daughter-in-law, Elise K. Penner; seven grandchildren, one brother, Abraham, Newton, Kan., one sister, Elizabeth, Mrs. J. B. Schmidt, Newton, his brothers-in-law and a host of nephews, nieces and many relatives and friends. Precious in the sigh of the Lord is the death of his Saints. Ps. 116:15.

Funeral services were held in the Grace hill church on Saturday afternoon, July 23, 1955, at 2:30 with Rev. Richard Tschetter, Cordell, Okla., and Rev. Curt Boese, Walton, Kans., officiating. Interment was in the Grace hill church cemetery. — Mrs. Jacob Penner and children.
