DANIEL DAVID PENNER

Daniel David Penner, the eldest son of Rev. and Mrs. H. D. Penner, was born near Hillsboro, Kan., Dec. 18, 1887. His boyhood was spent in Harvey and Marion Counties, Kan., where he received his elementary education. He later attended the Hillsboro Preparatory School established by his father, and in 1911 graduated from Bethel College Academy in Newton. He was united in marriage to Sara Wiebe on Aug. 11, 1912.

Mr. Penner taught in rural schools for 11 years, first near Hillsboro, Kan., then near Jansen, Neb. He was associated with Farmers' cooperatives for 30 years. At the time of his retirement from this work in 1950, he had one of the longest tenures of service of all managers in this system. During the past several years Mr. Penner had been secretary of the Trenton Public Schools.

Throughout his life, he was very active in community religious and educational programs. He was one of the lay leaders of the churches in the communities of his residence, serving on many boards and committees.

Mr. Penner's life on earth ended Dec. 16, 1960, two days prior to his seventy-third birthday, in an Omaha hospital.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Sara, seven children, Erna of Kansas City, Kan., Orville of Ellinwood, Kan., Donald of Neosho, Mo., Paul of Wichita, Kan., Clyde of Columbus, Ohio, Geraldine and Herbert, both of Omaha, Neb., and 15 grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
