— A deep tragedy struck the John Penner home northeast of Halstead last Thursday when their seven year old daughter Bernice was struck by an automobile on the highway east of the Halstead cemetery. The little girl was on her way home from school and was walking across the pavement when the accident happened. She died at the Halstead hospital the same evening. Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church in Halstead, conducted by Rev. David Wedel. The child is survived by her deeply sorrowing parents and two sisters and five brothers. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Schroeder of Newton are her grandparents.
