KATHERINE PAULS

Katherine Pauls of Winnipeg passed away Apr. 17. She was born Dec. 7, 1903 to Johann and Aganeta Paetkau in Burwalde, Russia. In December, 1925 she came to Main Centre, Sask. with her husband John Pauls and son, John. They moved to Beechy, Sask. in 1927, back to Main Centre in 1934, to Greenfarm, Sask. in 1943, then to Main Centre and to Winnipeg in 1959. She loved to sing and knew countless German hymns from memory. She loved her household work. She encouraged her children to pursue a good education (she had completed only grade 5) and instilled in them a love of reading. She chose to look after 2 handicapped children until after her 60th wedding anniversary. In Donwood Manor she was always cheerful and happy. Predeceased by her husband Nov. 10, 1988, daughter Helen in 1933 and all 10 of her siblings, she is mourned by her children John of Altona, Man., Adolph of Three Hills, Alta., Abe of Calgary, Mary of Winnipeg, Bertha Klassen of Winnipeg, Laura Funk of Elm Creek, Man., Harold of Winnipeg, Irvin of Morden, Man . and Waldo of Winnipeg; 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Apr. 19 in North Kildonan MB Church, Winnipeg, with Victor Toews and Henry Klaassen ministering.
