HENRY DANIEL PAULS

Henry Daniel Pauls was born October 29,1896 at Nikolaipol, Ekatrinaslov, Ukraine, and was educated at Barvenko and Moscow. He married Anna Froese May 9, 1921. They emigrated to Canada in 1924, eventually settling at McMahon, Sask., where he persevered at farming through difficult times.

He insisted that his children should enrich their lives through education, suffering personal deprivation to achieve this goal and vicariously share their educational experiences. All six daughters became teachers, one son a surgeon and one a trainman.

In 1943 the family moved to B.C., settling on a farm. Ten years later two sons, Dan and Jake, were killed in a tractor accident. Following this tragedy he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized in the Central Heights Church. On their retirement from farming they worshiped in the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church.

Mrs. Pauls passed away in December, 1966. Mr. Pauls, living by himself, remained keenly interested in his family, enjoying their company and stimulating and encouraging their endeavors with wise counsel. He remained active until his death on March 24.

The funeral was held in the Clearbrook Church on March 28, with Rev. H. Lenzmann and Rev. H. F. Klassen officiating. He leaves to mourn two sons; Dr. Henry Pauls of Chilliwack and Victor Pauls of Prince George, B.C.; six daughters: Mrs. Henry (Lydia) Reimer, of Abbotsford, Mrs. Jake (Anne) Dirksen of New Westminster, B.C., Mrs. Lory Ewert of Chilliwack, Mrs. Peter (Lena) Dueck of Abbotsford, Mrs. Arnold (Elsie) Peters of Westbank, B.C., Mrs. John (Winnifred) Dueck of Chilliwack; 27 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
