ALVIN LLOYD PAULS

Alvin Lloyd Pauls was born June 10, 1942 at Winkler, Manitoba. That year his family transferred to Saskatchewan where he lived the rest of his life. He received his elementary and secondary school education in a number of schools in and north of Saskatoon wherever his father, a teacher, taught. After high school he attended the Bethany Bible Institute at Hepburn. Here he found his Saviour and during his three-year attendance dedicated his life to Christian service. He led an active life and derived great satisfaction from involvement in extra-curricular activities such as the school newspaper, yearbook and choir.

After graduating from Bible School he attended the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan expecting to convocate with the B.Ed. degree in November, 1966. During his last year of attendance he served as the class president of his section.

Alvin was baptized and accepted as a member of the 33rd Street Mennonite Brethren Church at Saskatoon on September 23, 1962. Later he became one of the charter members of the Nutana MB Church where he served as teacher of the Senior High Sunday school class, as choir member and youth worker. He was also the church reporter for the MB Herald.

His final Christian service on earth was acting as camp counsellor at the Inter-Varsity Pioneer Ranch at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. On the way home, August 30, the car in which he was a passenger was involved in a collision near Vermillion, Alberta, causing injuries to which he succumbed the following day. He reached the age of 23 years. The blessings of his Christian testimony extend beyond the grave drawing the attention of those who knew him heavenward.

The funeral was held in the Nutana Mennonite Brethren Church on September 3 under the direction of Rev. H. H. Epp with the message given by Rev. A. Wieler of Bethany Bible Institute. A final tribute was paid by Ed Connacher of the Inter-Varsity staff, who was the director of the Junior Camp at Pioneer Ranch. Alvin is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pauls of Osler; one sister, Rosemary (Mrs. Clarence Slater of Nokomis, Alberta); one brother, Leonard, of Saskatoon; and many friend and relatives.
