Word has been received here that the person who was most instrumental in the erection of the new Menno Simons Church at Witmarsum, The Netherlands was called by death recently. He was Rev. F. H. Pasma, 83, former executive-secretary of the Dutch Mennonite Conference, who died last Aug. 14.
“Our conference gives Pasma credit for having the new Menno Simons Church in Witmarsum built,” says Rev. R. de Zeeuw, executive-secretary of the Dutch Mennonite Board of Special Needs.
The Witmarsum congregation began worshiping in the new sanctuary after Jan. 31, 1961, the 400th anniversary of Menno Simons’ death. Witmarsum is not only historic for being the birthplace of Menno Simons but he also served here as priest before renouncing the Catholic Church.
Rev. Pasma was a charter member of the board of directors of the Board of Special Needs, in which capacity he served until his death. In addition he served three Dutch Mennonite congregations — Mensingeweer, Dantumawoude and Grouw — as pastor.
