Opal Candace Pankratz died Oct. 24, 2007, at Hesston, Kansas.

She was born May 31, 1911, on the family farm near Canton, the daughter of Della May Landes and Ammon Bitikofer. She attended Bunker Hill Elementary School until moving to Hesston. She graduated from Hesston Academy in 1931. She was a resident of Hesston, having also lived in Wichita and Moundridge.

She belonged to the Spring Valley Mennonite Church and College Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Silver Link Sunday school class and Amity, a women's group.

On May 18, 1936, she married Gilbert P. Pankratz in Hesston. He survives. Others survivors include: a son, Gaylon, two grandsons, Michael and David, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Bitikofer; and a sister, Ferne (Bitikofer) Liller.
