John H. Pankratz was born Sept. 7, 1909 to John P. and Anna Sommerfeld Pankratz at the family home near Canton, Kan. He passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 1960.

John received his education at the Springfield school in Marion county and later attended the Goessel Preparatory school. On his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior, he was baptized on May 19, 1929 by the late Rev. P. P. Buller and was received into the membership of the Goessel Mennonite church. He was active in church and community life and gave of his talent in singing as long as his health permitted.

He married Vivian Glenn on Aug. 17, 1939 at Norwich, Kan. Their life together was a happy one, and to the union were born two sons and three daughters.

Left to mourn his loss are his widow, Vivian, and the children, Glen, Beth, Carol, Verne and Julia. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Mrs. P. H. (Clara) Penner, and two brothers, Arnold and Werner.

Also surviving are his aged mother, three sisters, Hulda and Margaret of the home, Bertha, and her husband, Harlan S. Lippert and family of Lyndon, Kan., one brother-in-law, P. H. Penner and wife of Hillsboro; one niece, Arlene, and her husband, Roy Unruh and family of Hillsboro, besides many relatives and friends.

He had been in poor health since 1956, but was courageous, being deeply concerned about his family, and doing his best to provide for them. He was a kind and loving husband and father who had gone on before and whom we hope to meet in our heavenly home. — The Family.
