— Mrs. Benjamin Pankratz, one of the oldest members of the community at Mountain Lake, Minn., died there last week at the advanced age of 87 years. grandmother Pankratz had fallen and suffered a broken hp about two wees previous to her death. Eleven children survive, a number living at Mountain Lake and several in different parts of Canada.

EIGHTY-SEVEN YEAR OLD MINNESOTA PIONEER CALLED AWAY IN DEATH
Mountain Lake, Minn., Jan. 18. — Funeral services were conducted for another of Mountain Lake's pioneers. Mrs. Benjamin Pankratz Monday afternoon at the Bethel Mennonite church. Mrs. Pankratz died last week Wednesday at the age of 87.
She was in comparatively good health but very seldom left her farm home. On January 2, 1945 she fell and received a bone fracture. She was taken to Bethel hospital and seemed to be making satisfactory progress until she died very suddenly January 17.
Mrs. Pankratz (nee Gertrude Harder) was born on November 10, 1857 at Pordenau in South Russia. Here she spent her early years and attended public schools. Later with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Harder, she moved to Friedensruh. In 1875 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Marienau.
On December 2, 1886 she was married to Benjamin Pankratz, who had been bereft of his first wife and left with four sons and two daughters. She had three sons and four daughters of her own.
In 1863 [sic 1893] they sold their possessions in Russia and migrated to America, arriving at Mountain Lake in March of that year. Mr. Pantratz [sic Pankratz] died on April 19, 1936 at the age of 91 years. They lived together for 49 years. — Mt. Lake Observer.
