JOSEPH OYER

Joseph Oyer of Foosland, Ill. died July 10 at the Cole Hospital in Champaign, Ill. where he had been a patient since July 6. His death was caused by a stroke following surgery.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the East Bend Mennonite Church near Fisher, Ill. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Rev. Alton Horst and Rev. Roy Unsicker officiated.

He was born in Woodford County, Ill. on March 29, 1880, son of Christian and Catherine (Zehr) Oyer.

He married Bertha Zimmerman on Nov. 25, 1909. She preceded him in death Oct. 17, 1952. Also two sons and two daughters, one brother and four sisters preceded him.

He is survived by four sons, Walter, Elmer, and Leslie of Fisher, Ill., and Merle of Chicago; three daughters, Ruby, Mrs. Harlan Birkey of Rantoul, Ill., Ruth, Mrs. Raymond Birkey of Foosland, Ill., and Dorothy Oyer of Campana, Panama; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jake of Morton, Ill., Pete of Congerville, Ill., and Samuel of Gibson City, Ill. and one sister, Miss Elise Oyer of Foosland.

He was a member of the East Bend Mennonite Church.
