Pioneer Settler in So. Dakota Dies

Marion, S. D. — Death removed one of the pioneer settlers in this area with the passing of Mrs. Elisabeth Ortman, 88,in a Yankton rest home on Nov. 13. funeral services were held at the Salem-Zion Mennonite church near Freeman.

Mrs. Ortman was born in Switzerland and came to this country at an early age. Her marriage to Karl K. Orman occurred in 1887, and they farmed in McCook and Turner counties for many years. Mr. Ortman died in 1931.

Surviving are two daughters, four sons, 23 grandchildren, one of whom she raised, and 34 great-grandchildren.
