Jacob J. Nussbaum

After suffering with dropsy of the heart for ten long trying years Jacob J. Nussbaum, living on the old Peter Sauer farm at Kidron, Ohio, early on Thursday morning, Dec. 24, 1931, peacefully passed away, unnoticed by members of the family who were attending him. Many a time it was reported during his long illness that he could not live much longer but he rallied again and again. He was born near Bluffton, O., Feb. 7, 1862, thus reaching the age of 69 yrs. 10 mo., 14 days. While yet young the family moved near Berne, Ind., where he joined the Mennonite church.

On Aug. 6, 1887, he was married to Miss Anna Neuenschwander of that place. Seventeen children were born to them, of which eleven are still living, viz: Albert, Eli, Levi, Amos, Noah, Louis; Mary, Mrs. Theo. Fleuckiger, all of this vicinity; Martha, Mrs. Sylvan Hofstetter, Apple Creek; Sarah, Mrs. Leonard Amstutz, Harrsonburg, Va., and Aldine, Mrs. Mose Amstutz at home. 39 grandchildren survive. Three brothers, Isaac and Abraham of this place and John of Berne, Ind., four sisters, Mrs. J. Moser, Orrville R. D. 2, Mrs. Emil Badertscher, Berne; Mrs. Ed. Liddy, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Miller, Okla.

About 28 years ago, he, with his large family moved into this commyunity [sic] and at the funeral services in the Sonnenberg church on Saturday forenoon, the relatives, a number of them from abroad, occupied a large part of the spacious building. Three of the local ministers, C. N. and Louis Amstutz and J. Moser and Rev. S. W. Sommer of Berlin, Holmes Co., spoke to the large assembly.

Mr. Nussbaum, in his younger days had few his equal for bodily strength and endurance and was a hard worker. He benefitted [sic] by his protracted illness to prepare himself to meet his God and expressed his resignation to the will of his Creator. We feel certain our list of names of friends and relatives from abroad, who attended the funeral is incomplete. Moser. From Ft. Wayne were Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Baumgartner and daughter; from Bluffton, Ind., Jacob Felber, son Harry, son-in-law Levi Maller; from Harrisonbug, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Amstutz and family; from Pandora, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Diller, and Dewey Amstuz. — Contributed.
