CHRIST C. NUSSBAUM

Christ C. Nussbaum was born February 7, 1878, in the Kidron-Sonnenberg community in Ohio and departed from this life July 19, 1950 at the age of 72 years, four months and 12 days. He was in failing health for several years but became seriously ill a few days before his death at the Massillon City hospital.

In his youth he joined the Sonnenberg Mennonite church. On January 11, 1911, he was married to Elizabeth Schumaker, oldest daughter of Adam and Sarah Welty Schumaker. To this union were born 11 children.

On February 25, 1928, his companion died of pneumonia. Also one son, Leslie preceded him in death, having been killed on the European battle front of World War II.

Surviving are six sons, Gillis of Massillon, Loris, Wilfred, Harley, Eldon and Dean of Dalton: four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Schnaible of Gladstone, Oregon; Mrs. Alice Douglas, Mrs. Ada Nichols of Dalton and Mrs. Alma Yoder of Hubbard, Oregon. Also 26 grandchildren survive.

He lived in the Sonnenberg community for some time but later bought a farm in Pleasant Valley. Along with his farming he also repaired watches and jewelry for many years.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23, at the Des Voignes funeral home at Mt. Eaton, Ohio, with Rev. Allen Bixler of Kidron officiating. Interment was made in Dalton cemetery.
