Pennsylvania Crash Kills 2, Injures 16

Allentown, Pa. — The collision of a pickup truck and a van carrying two families of Mennonites claimed the lives of six-year-old Irene Newswanger and Harry Nolt, 56, of Barto, Pa., driver of the pickup.

The girl was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Newswanger of Fleetwood. They were riding in the van with David's brother Isaac and wife and 13 other children of the two families. Four members of the David Newswanger family were hospitalized at Allentown with serious injuries, and Mrs. Isaac Newswanger and Earl Webber, 17, a passenger in the pickup, were critically injured and were taken to a Reading hospital.

The crash occurred five miles west of here the evening of June 4. the two Fleetwood families reportedly were returning home from a day-long excursion to a Philadelphia zoo.
