MARY ELLEN NOFZIGER

Mary Ellen (Schrock) Nofziger was born on Oct. 28, 1913 in Hutchinson, Kan. It was in the Yoder Mennonite Church that she accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and was baptized. She moved with her parents to Oregon in 1926 and the family settled in the Macksburg area near the Bethel Mennonite Church. In this congregation she gave of her talents, especially in singing.

It was here also on July 3, 1935, that Mary was married to Aaron Nofziger. They made their home on the farm and here she gave her time and devotion in loving service to her husband and four sons. Her father and mother-in-law also received her care for over half of her married life.

Though mother was restricted for at least 15 years because of a severe heart condition, on Jan. 18 a stroke left her partially paralyzed and speechless. On Monday evening, Feb. 3, the Lord laid his hand tenderly upon her and bade her “Come Home.” She reached the age of 50 years, three months and five days.

In addition to her husband Aaron she is survived by four sons: Maynard, his wife Mildred and son Dennis of Route 2, Canby; Ronald, now serving two years in the Rogue Valley Hospital, Medford, Oregon, as a surgery technician, and his wife Kathryn, a secretary in the same hospital; Leland, who is living in Portland and serving for two years at the Good Samaritan Hospital; and Arnold who is in grade school.

Also surviving are her father, S. P. Schrock of Molalla, who is a minister at the Bethel Mennonite Church, and her mother; four sisters, Elsie (Mrs. Julious [sic Julius]The ) Schultz, Clara Schrock, Iva (Mrs. Allen) Snyder, and Grace (Mrs. Charles) Yoder; and two brothers, Willis Schrock of Cottage Grove, Oregon and Merlin Schrock of Portland, Oregon. The memorial service was held at the Zion Mennonite Church near Hubbard, Ore., of which she was a member, on Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor John M. Lederach officiating. Music was provided by a mixed chorus from both Zion and Bethel churches and solos by Milton Martin and Mrs. Naomi Lederach. Interment was in the Zion Mennonite Cemetery.
