MRS. MARIE NISWANDER

Marie Hiebert Niswander, daughter of Abraham and Helena (Pankratz) Hiebert, was born on Feb. 23, 1886, at Hillsboro, Kans. and departed this life on Jan.27, 1956, at the age of 69 years.

As a young woman she came to Reedley, California where she was baptized by the late Rev. H. J. Krehbiel and became a member of the First Mennonite Church in Reedley. Later she came to Upland where she entered nurses training.

In 1918 she was married to Calvin Niswander. They made their home here and she transferred her membership to the Upland church. To this union was born one son, Raymond, who lost his life in Okinawa during the Second World War. A few years later Raymond's wife was killed in a car collision leaving behind one child.

Mrs. Niswander was also the victim of a car accident. It came as a great shock to this community when word was received of the car accident, in which she was riding with her husband when a truck and semi-trailer ran into them from a side road at Fontana. She was rushed to the Kaiser hospital where injuries were determined to be a broken leg and internal injuries. It was while attendants tried to alleviate her suffering that she passed away. Her husband was not injured.

Funeral services were held in the First Mennonite Church of Upland with Rev. Paul Goering officiating. The ladies chorus sang for the service and six nephews of the departed acted as pallbearers.

Left to mourn her loss are her husband, and one granddaughter, Pamela, besides other relatives and friends. interment was made in Bellevue cemetery.
