CHRISTOPHER NICKELS

Christopher Cornelius Nickels was born June 21, 1877, in McPherson, Kansas. He lived there until he was 14 years of age, then moved to Butler with his parents. Here he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior and was baptized at the age of 16 years.

From there the family moved onto a homestead in Washita county, Oklahoma. Here the family joined with the Mennonite Brethren church. He enjoyed taking active part in Sunday School and in all song services, which proved a real blessing to him.

On December 19, 19927, he and his family moved to a farm at Dalhart, Texas. Here he became a member of the First Christina church, since there was no Mennonite church at this place. He was a man of much faith and prayer, and tried hard to live a Christian life.

It was hard for him when his boys had to enter the service. He often prayed that they would all be home before he would have to leave here. his prayer was answered.

When his health gave way, during suffering and pain he prayed for others, for his children and that god would take him home. When his time came he was ready to go.

He died suddenly in Boise City, Okla., on April 3, at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon at the age of 68 years. Death was caused by a heart attack, which struck him in a doctor's office where he had taken his wife for treatment.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, the former Katie Zielke; five sons of Dalhart, Herman, Andy, Cornelius, Leo and Earl; five daughters, Mrs. M. S. Nickel of El Centro, Calif., Mrs. Leeland Firestone, Mrs. Ike Wiebe, Mrs. Elias Zielke, all of Dalhart, and Mrs. Robert Hulse of New York. One child preceded him in death. he also leaves 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandchild preceded him in death. There also remain four brothers. All children were home for the funeral.

Also many relatives from Meade, Kansas, Hooker, Okla., Coldwater, Kansas, and Corn, Okla., attended the funeral services.

Funeral services were held in Dalhart in the Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Chapel. Rev. M. A. Buhler, pastor of the First Christian church, officiated.
