MRS. PAULINE NICKEL

Pauline Hadel Nickel, daughter of Andrew and Justina Hadel, was born on Jan. 26, 1875, in Radomischo, Russia. Here she spent her childhood days. At the age of 11 she came with her parents to Marion County, Kansas, where they settled on a farm.

On Oct. 3, 1894, she was united in holy matrimony to our father, the late Rev. Peter E. Nickel, with whom she lived in matrimony for 64 years, 4 months, and 28 days. Father preceded her in death by one month and six days. Their union was blessed with 10 children, six sons and four daughters. One son, Daniel, passed away in infancy, and another son, Harry, passed away last year.

Our parents made their first home at Fairview, Okla. Here mother was restored to full fellowship at the time when father was saved. They followed the Lord in baptism on May 6, 1897. Later they moved to Hillsboro, Kansas, where father served as pastor of the Mennonite Brethren Church for many years. In 1937 our parents came to Reedley, Calif., where they made their home to the last.

Our mother was always about her task of caring for her family. She was devoted to her Lord, her church, her husband, and children. She was a God-fearing woman who continually pointed her children as well as others to the love of Christ.

The last years of her life were spent in the Reedley Home for the Aged. She enjoyed this Home and was a blessing to others about her. We ware thankful to God that she enjoyed comparatively good health until her last days. Only five weeks ago she was still able to attend the memorial service of our father. Monday noon, April 6, 1959, the Lord called her home to glory. She reached the age of 84 years, two months, and 20 days.

Those who remain to commemorate her passing are her children, Roy of Barstow, Calif., Herb of Wasco, Calif., Benny of Reedley, Calif., Jona of Shafter, Calif., Verna, Mrs. Charles Dahlke of Lehigh, Kansas, Alice, Mrs. C. R. Dickhut of Covina, Calif., Esther, Mrs. Lester Gordon of Delano, Calif., and Leah, Mrs. Al Wengeler of Hollister, Calif.; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gustaf Hadel of New Westminster, B. C, Canada.

The memorial service was held Friday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church with the pastor, Rev. Dan Friesen, officiating.
