JACOB P. NICKEL

Jacob P. Nickel was born in Alexanderthal, South Russia, Aug. 15, 1877 into the home of Peter and Mary Nickel. In 1902 he migrated to America with his parents, settling in Sask. He was married to Susanna Rempel in the Bruderthal, Sask. church in 1903.

The family homesteaded at Langham, then moved to Dalmeny where Jacob and Susanna and their family lived for 37 years. The Nickels were blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters of which one son died in infancy. In 1947, Brother Nickel and his family moved to Clearbrook, B.C.

Jacob Nickel accepted Christ as personal Saviour at 22 years and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church soon after. He actively served his Lord as secretary-treasurer of the local church, as Sunday school teacher, on various committees, and in the community in various ways. Above all he was a pillar of faith and prayer in his home and away from home.

He suffered a lengthy illness, remaining patient throughout. Just last fall, he was privileged to celebrate the diamond anniversary of his marriage. He was already ailing at that time. He died, Aug. 20 at 87 years.

Jacob Nickel is survived by his wife Susanna; 4 daughters, Mary, Helen Susie (Mrs. J. Martins), Louise (Mrs. A.Schmidt); 2 sons, John and Jacob; 10 grandchildren and 11 g.grandchildren.
