HILLSBORO - Edna "Jane" Nickel died Aug. 16, 2013, in Hillsboro, Kan. She was born to Abe and Ida Gaede Balzer July 31, 1916, near Whitewater, Kan., where she grew up and attended school.

She married Henry P. Nickel Sept. 6, 1936, in California, and several years later they moved to Buhler, Kan. She relocated to Hillsboro in 2004. She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Jane was very involved with the Central Christian School Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving her are a son, David (Mary) of Oakhurst, Calif.; three daughters, Jeanette (Clarence) Funk of Fresno, Calif., Myrna Kliewer of Hillsboro, Kan., and Sylvia (Rick) Allen, of Crest Hill, Ill.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who passed away Jan. 18, 1995; brothers, Frank, Arnold, and Howard; and son-in-law, Tim Kliewer.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Mennonite Brethren Church, Buhler. Memorial contributions may be designated for Central Christian School, Hutchinson, or Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center, in care of Buhler Mortuary, 120 North Main, Buhler, KS 67522.
