— John C. Nicholson, 80, one of Newton's most widely known citizens, passed away recently at Colorado Springs, Colo., from injuries received when he was struck by a car in Manitou. Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Congregational church here, conducted by his son-in-law, the Rev. Robert Dolliver of New York City. Mr. Nicholson was one of the first promotors [sic] of good highways fr [sic] the state, having been president of U. S. 81 and U. S. 50 Highway Associations. One of his chief interests was to collect historical data about Harvey county, including records of early Mennonite settlements here. He is survived by his wife and five children.
