MRS. JOHN J. NEUFELD

Mrs. John J. Neufeld, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich D. Friesen, was born March 6, 1861, in South Russia.

At the age of 16 she with her parents came to America. In 1876 she helped break the sod for their home just south of the Bethel church, Inman, Kansas. She spent the greater part of her life in the Inman community.

She was baptized upon her confession of faith by Elder Heinrich Toews and received into the Bethel church. Later, when she moved to Meade, Kansas, she joined the E.M.B. church, of which she remained a member until her death.

She was married to George Kroeker on May 4, 1880. Three children were born to this union, Justina and Henry, who died in infancy, and George, who died April 5, 1943 at the age of 59. Mr. Kroeker died on April 8, 1883.

On Jan. 22, 1884, she was united in marriage to Rev. John J. Neufeld. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom five preceded her in death. Abraham died in infancy. John F. died June 28, 1928, at the age of 43. Mary, Mrs. G. Witt, died Jan. 26, 1919, at the age of 27, Isaac died Dec. 23, 1918 at the age of 25, and Abe died Aug. 21, 1943, at the age of 48. Father Neufeld died May 20, 1919, at the age of 60. After his passing Mother lived in the town of Inman for seven years, and then moved to Meade where she made her home with her daughter, Katie, Mrs. H. P. Ediger, for 14 years. After the home for aged at Inman opened, she entered the Home Nov. 7, 1947. Here she received wonderful care, for which the family is very grateful. She had been bedfast for some months, always patient, never complaining, but always with a friendly smile for all who came to see her.

On Friday, June 12, at 6:15 the Lord took her Home where there is no more suffering or pain, for which she had longed for some time. She reached the age of 92 years, three months and six days. She leaves to mourn her death four children, Henry F. Neufeld of Henderson, Neb.; Katie, Mrs. H. P. Ediger of Meade; Jake K. Neufeld of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sara, Mrs. A. A. Ediger of McPherson; 51 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren. — The Bereaved Family.
