PETER F. NACHTIGAL

Peter F. Nachtigal, son of Jacob and Maria (Kliewer) Nachtigal, was born on Sept. 2, 1897 in Reno County, Kansas. Here he received his elementary education.

On May 19, 1918 he was baptized by Elder Abraham Ratzlaff of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Inman. Later he transferred his membership to First Mennonite Church of Buhler, Kan.

On Jan. 17, 1926 he was married to Agatha Wiens by Rev. P. R. Voth. They shared almost 48 years of married life. Two sons, Virgil and Harry, were born to this union.

The family resided on a farm near Buhler until 1934 when they moved to Newton. Here they became involved with the First Mennonite Church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death on Dec. 22, 1973 at the age of 76. He appreciated his church and sought to support it faithfully.

He was faithful in family responsibilities and was much concerned about the spiritual welfare of his children and grandchildren whom he upheld daily in his prayers.

Due to failing health he had to retired from his work at the Santa Fe Railroad in 1957. A severe heart ailment caused him to suffer much pain, and he was in and out of the hospital many times.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife; his children, Virgil and Viola of Newton, and Harry and Emily of Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Schroeder and Mrs. Marie Schroeder; two brothers, John and Jacob; and six grandchildren. Preceding his in death were three sisters, one brother and one granddaughter. — The Family.
