OSWIN MOUTTET

Oswin Mouttet, son of Rev. and Mrs. Paul Mouttet, was born Aug. 14, 1895 near Hillsboro, Kan. He attended the Warren Grade School and studied two years in the Hillsboro Preparatory School where Rev. H. D. Penner was the teacher and principal. Then he attended the Bethel College Academy one year.

Mr. Mouttet's entire life was spent on the farm or intimately connected with farm life.

As a youth he committed himself to our Savior and joined the catechism class in Bruderthal Church, taught by Elder Wm. J. Ewert. Mr. Mouttet was baptized June 1, 1916 by Rev. Ewert and became a member of the Bruderthal Church, in which he remained a faithful member to the end of his life.

On Sept. 9, 1921 he was married to Marie Goertzen. In time they adopted a six-year-old girl, Rosamund, now Mrs. Fred Mau, of Herington, Kan.

On Sept. 9, 1946 Mr. and Mrs. Mouttet celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in the Bruderthal Church.

From 1921 to 1948 they lived on the parental Mouttet farm. From 1948 to 1961 they lived on a farm east of Marion, where they attended the Evangelical Church. In 1961 they retired to their new home in Hillsboro.

Mr. Mouttet enjoyed reasonably good health. He had a car accident in 1957 from which he recovered fairly well. In 1962 he had a stroke, from which he also practically recovered.

In November 1965 he became a patient in the Hillsboro hospital, suffering a great deal with shingles, which only partially healed. Other complications set in and he was transferred to the Bethel Hospital, Newton, for observation and treatment. Later he was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. On Jan. 15 he was taken back to Hillsboro hospital where at 7 p. m. on Jan. 17 his Lord and Redeemer called him Home. His journey in this earthly life extended 70 years, five months and three days.

Mr. Mouttet was a conscientious provider for the family, and a faithful husband and loving father. In the church and community he proved himself to be a consistent light in behalf of his Lord and Master.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Marie Goertzen Mouttet; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Fred Mau and family; one granddaughter Rose Marie; one brother, Ruben Mouttet; one brother-in-law, G. A. Nachtigal; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Solomon Mouttet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Rev. Solomon Mouttet, and one sister, Mrs. Esther Mouttet Nachtigal.
