Retired Minister Called Away in Death At Meadows, Ill.

Meadows, Ill. — Funeral services for Rev. Frank R. Mitchell, 76, retired minister of the General Conference Mennonite Church, were held Sept. 18 at the Meadows Mennonite Church. Rev. Lotus E. Troyer officiated, assisted by Rev. Bruno Penner.

Rev. Mitchell died at his home here on Sept. 16 after a long illness.

A graduate of Bluffton College and Witmarsum Theological seminary, both at Bluffton, Ohio, he was an ordained minister for 40 years. He held pastorates at Comins, Mich., the Peoria (Ill.) Gospel Mission, the Bethel Church at Pekin, Ill., and the Pulaski (Iowa) Mennonite Church. He also served for some years as superintendent and later pastor of the Meadows Mennonite Home.

REV. FRANK R. MITCHELL

Rev. Frank R. Mitchell, 76, died at his home in Meadows, Ill. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 1972, following a long illness with cancer. His funeral was Monday, Sept. 18, 1972 at the Meadows Mennonite Church with Rev. Lotus Troyer officiating and Rev. Bruno Penner assisting. The Meadows Mennonite Church Choir sang three songs. Burial was in the Chenoa Cemetery.

He was born April 8, 1896 at Orland Park, Ill., a son of John and Alice McKinney Mitchell. He graduated from Bluffton College and Witmarsum Theological Seminary in Bluffton, Ohio. He married Florence Rhoads at Comins, Mich. on Jan. 14, 1933.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters; Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Miller of Chenoa, Ill., Mrs. Gerald (Miriam) Nofsinger, of Washington, Ill., and by adoption, Mrs. Dale (Doris) Hitz, of Tikonsha, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Henry Erickson, Homewood, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He was a member of the Meadows Mennonite Church and was an ordained minister for 40 years. He served the Comins, Mich. Mennonite Church from 1931-1941, the Peoria, Ill. Gospel Mission from 1941-1945, and the Bethel Mennonite Church at Pekin, Ill. until the call came to serve at the Meadows Mennonite Home as superintendent in 1947, where he stayed until 1961. The next seven years spent as the pastor of the Pulaski, Iowa Mennonite Church. The last four years of his life he lived in Meadows and served the Meadows Home as the pastor. Even after he was not able to go over to the Home in body he was there in spirit.

He was always a student and he spent many hours in study and writing, particularly study of prayer. — The Family.
