One Dead in Illinois Airplane Crash

PILOT SERIOUSLY HURT; WERE RETURNING FROM MISSION BD. MEETING

Metamora. Ill. — A Iarge congregation attended funeral services at the Metamora Mennonite church on June 15 for Archie W. Mishler, 36, of Roanoke, who was fatally injured June 12 when the light plane in which he was a passenger crashed in an attempted landing at the Joseph Schnieder [sic Schneider] farm near here.

He and the pilot of the plane, John V. Reeb, of Metamora, had almost completed the return trip from Goshen, Ind., where they had attended the annual meeting of the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities, when the tragedy occurred. Mr. Reeb is a patient at St. Francis hospital, Peoria, with fractures of both legs and head injuries, but is reported to be recovering.

A witness to the crash said the plane was being banked at an altitude estmated [sic] at 50 feet when it suddenly plummeted to the earth and nosed over. Nearby residents soon extricated the two men, and Mr. Mishler passed away several hours later at the Eureka hospital.

Services for Mr. Mishler were in charge of Rev H. R. Schertz, assisted by Rev. Weaver of Indiana. He leaves his wife: two sons, Clyde and Keith; his father, three sisters and four brothers.
