ELKHART, IND. — Dr. Edward P. Mininger, 64, well-known Elkhart physician and a leader in church and community affairs, died Sunday, March 16, at University Hospital in Iowa City, Ia. where he had been a patient for six weeks.
A service for the family was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home here, followed by a committal. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. the same day at the Prairie street Mennonite Church.
DR. MININGER was the senior practitioner in the Hudson Medical Group, Inc., a partnership of five physicians, all in obstetrics and gynecology. At the time of his death he was on the advisory committee of Dr. Norman Beatty Memorial state Hospital, Westville, and the Governor's Advisory Council for Mental Health.
He took his pre-medical studies at Hesston College (Kansas), the University of Iowa, and Goshen College. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Born Jan. 10, 1911 at La Junta, Colo., Dr. Mininger had been a resident of Elkhart since 1946. He came here from Cleveland where he had been Demonstrator in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Western Reserve University for two and a half years.
HE WAS A CONSULTANT in obstetrics and gynecology at both Goshen General Hospital and Elkhart General Hospital. He was a past president of the Elkhart County mental Health Services, Inc., and Better Business Bureau. Also he was a past officer in the YMCA, United Community Services, Family Service Assn., Chamber of commerce, Mental Health Association of Elkhart County, and Elkhart County Health Foundation. He held membership in several professional organizations.
Dr. Mininger was active in the Prairie Street Church, and at the time of his death was chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee of the Mennonite Board of Missions, Elkhart.
He married Mabel Fisher in Iowa City in 1936. She survives with a son, Ronald, of Los Angeles, a daughter, Dr. Linda Mininger of Napa, Calif.; one grandson; and a brother, Dr. Paul Mininger of San Francisco.
