Former Teacher Marks 96th Birthday
Protection, Kan. — S. Enos Miller celebrated his 96th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Mr. Miller is a graduate of McPherson College and did graduate work at KSAC, Manhattan. He was a teacher for 20 years, 11 of which were spent on the faculty at Hesston College. During the depression years he and Mrs. Miller retired to their farm south of Protection. Later they moved to their present home in Protection.
Their children are Mrs. Truman Selzer, Protection, and Sanford Miller of Topeka, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Miller and Steve of Topeka and Mrs. Michael Fredrick and Michelle of Colorado Springs spent the weekend helping their father and grandfather celebrate his 96th birthday.

Long-Time Protection, Kan. Resident Dies
Word was received by the Review this week that S. Enos Miller, a resident of the Protection, Kan. community most of his life, died Monday night at the Comanche County Hospital where he had been a patient for about eight weeks. He was 97.
Mr. Miller was formerly a teacher, and served on the Hesston College faculty from 1920 to 1931. His wife, Ursula, is a former writer and correspondent for the Review.
Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Protection Mennonite Church.

S. ENOS MILLER
Sylvanus Enos Miller, son of Joseph C. and Barbara E. (Yoder) Miller, was born in Lagrange County, Indiana on Feb. 7, 1874, and departed this life on Nov. 15, 1971 at the age of 97 years at the Comanche County (Kansas) Hospital following an eight-week illness.
With his parents he moved to McPherson County, Kansas in 1882. He attended the West Liberty Mennonite Church and Sunday School, was baptized in his youth, and remained a faithful Christian.
In 1903 he received the Bachelor of Arts degree from McPherson College and taught in public schools, both grade and high school, for nine years. Later from 1920 to 1931, he taught at Hesston College where he also served as registrar. In 1918 he was ordained a deacon in the Mennonite Church. He also served as District Conference Treasurer for 13 years.
In 1907 he married Ursula Miller, daughter of N. E. and Sophronia Hummel Miller, at Jet, Okla. They sojourned together 64 years. Many of these years were spent on their farm south of Protection, Kan. until moving to Protection in 1948.
Science was his field, and he loved gardening and working with nature. Reading was also a hobby, especially his Bible and books of history. During his last years of blindness, recordings of the Bible and devotional books were a great source of comfort to him. He and his wife Ursula, lived contentedly in their home until Ursula's illness in July, when he entered Pioneer Lodge.
Surviving are the widow; one daughter, Lahla, Mrs. Truman Selzer; one son, Sanford E. Miller of Topeka, Kan.; eight grandchildren; one sister, Selina, Mrs. Roy Zook, of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Sabastian C. [sic Sebastian Christian] of Elgin, Ill. and Shelly D. of Inman, Kan.
Funeral services were held in the Protection Mennonite Church on Nov. 18, 1971 with Rev. Robert C. Yoder and Rev. Charles Schweitzer officiating. Burial was made in the Mennonite Cemetery at Protection.
