Retired Minister And Editor Called by Death

MIN. J. B. MILLER WAS LEADER IN CONSERVATIVE A. M. CONFERENCE

Grantsville, Md. — Funeral services for Jonas B. Miller, retired minister of the Conservative Amish Mennonite church and former editor of the “Herold der Wahrheit,’' were held at the Maple Glen meeting house near here on Sept. 23. The services were widely attended.

The aged minister and leader in conference work passed away at his home Sept. 20 after being bedfast most of the time for nearly a year.

Born here Dec. 10, 1870, son of Joel J. and Savilla Beachy Miller, he was ordained to the ministry on May 30, 1897, serving the Castleman River District as long as health permitted, and also farming here until 1935.

In 1917 he was appointed editor of the English section of the “Herold der Wahrheit,” semimonthly publication serving the Amish and Conservative A. M. groups, and continued in that capacity for more than 30 years.

His wife, the former Barbara Swartzendruber, passed away in 1923. Surviving are 11 children, two brothers, Alvin J. of Kent, Ohio and Milton of Grantsville; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Schrock of Sarasota, Fla. and Mrs. Harvey Yoder of Grantsville. A son, Harvey, is a missionary in Luxembourg.
