FINAL SERVICES HELD FOR AGED AMISH RESIDENT AT NAPPANEE, INDIANA

Nappanee, Ind. — The funeral of John J. Miller, well-known member of the Old Order Amish church who died recently at the age of 90, took place and the Daniel I. Hochstetler home west of here on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7. The services were in charge of Valentine Yoder and Monroe Hochstetler, assisted by Jonas Helmuth of Hartville, Ohio.

The deceased was born in Holmes county, Ohio, and had lived in this community for the past 30 years, the last 12 years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Yoder. He is survived by nine children, three step-children, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

JOHN J. MILLER

John J. Miller, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1947, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Yoder, near Milford, Ind., where he had lived for 12 years. He had been ill several months.

He was born Feb. 2, 1856, in Holmes county, Ohio, and moved to Nappanee 30 years ago, where he lived until 1934. In March, 1880, he married Susannah Frey; she died Dec. 15, 1901. He married Lydia Gingerich Nov. 9, 1905, and she died Nov. 24, 1924. On July 10, 1927, he was married to Katie Christner Miller, who died Nov. 26, 1933.

Surviving are five sons, Samuel of near Nappanee, Lester of Nappanee, Lovi [sic Levi] of Liman, Colo., Sylvanus of Kalona, Iowa, and Melvin of Wellman, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Joe Swartz of Etna Green, Mrs. Menaugh [sic Menno] Yoder of near Nappanee, Mrs. Yoder and Mrs. Dan Nast [sic Mast] of Garretville, Ohio; four step-children, Valentine Byler, Joe Byler of Akron, Pa., Mrs. Joe Kauffman of Chardon, Ohio, and Mrs. John Biler of Grantsville, Md.; and three brothers, Isaac J. of Holmes county, Christian J. of Arthur, Ill., and Jonas Z. of near Nappanee.

Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Daniel I. Hostetler home west of Nappanee. Valentine Yoder and Monroe Hostetler of the old order Amish church officiated. Burial was in cemetery.
