Goshen College Student Fatally Injured While On Way To Work

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR J. WILBUR MILLER HELD TUESDAY, JANUARY 29

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29, for J. Wilbur Miller, 20, of Mantua, Ohio, a theological student at Goshen College, who died as result of a skull fracture suffered at 5:30 A. M. on the previous Friday.

Miller was riding a bicycle on his way to work at the Stemen Café when he was struck by an automobile driven by Ezra Zimmerman, 67, of route five, Goshen. Hit with considerable force, Miller was thrown against the windshield of the car, and was knocked unconscious as his head struck the curb on the side of the street.

He passed away in the Goshen Hospital without regained consciousness. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Miller of Mantua, Ohio.

President E. E. Miller of Goshen College presided at the funeral services, which were as follows:

Hymns by a cappella chorus; Scripture and prayer, Rev. Russell Krabill, pastor of the Locust Grove church of which the deceased was Sunday School superintendent; sermon, Bishop S. C. Yoder; testimonies, on behalf of the Goshen College Bible School, Dean H. S. Bender; on half of former students, Rev. Roy Roth, Morton, Ill.; a cappella chorus; on behalf of student body, Harold Baumann, Leetonia, Ohio; hymns by a cappella chorus; benedictory prayer by President E. E. Miller.

Following the funeral, the parents and the fiancee of the deceased accompanied the body to his former home. On Thursday afternoon, Jan. 31, funeral and burial services were held from the Plainview Mennonite church in Portage county, Ohio, where the deceased was a member. His fiancee, Miss Doris Miller of Goshen, is a senior in the college. The young couple were to have been married next summer and Bishop S. C. Yoder and Rev. Roy Roth were to have been the officiating ministers.
