EMMA HELMUTH MILLER

Emma (Helmuth) Miller, daughter of Eli and Kate (Headings) Miller [sic Helmuth], was born Jan. 11, 1907, at Hutchinson, Kansas, and died at 7:30 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1948, at the Grace hospital, Hutchinson, age 41 years seven months and 24 days.

This was a very sudden call, as she was sick only two days with obstructed bowels, from which she suffered greatly.

At the age of 18 years, she was baptized as a member in the Old Order Amish Mennonite church, and remained a faithful and consistent member until death. She was united in marriage to John D. Miller on Jan. 29, 1931, and lived in matrimony 17 years seven months and six days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her sorrowing husband and six children, Albert, age 16, Eli, 13, Fannie, 10, Edward, 6, David, 4, and Barbara, 3; her aged mother, Mrs. Katie Nisly; two brothers, Levi and John Helmuth: and one sister, Mrs. Harry Yoder, all of Route 1, Hutchinson; four step-brothers and four step-sisters; five uncles and two aunts; and her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. David J. Miller of the home. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Albert.

She was a much appreciated wife, mother, sister and friend, and had a ready greeting and cheerful smile for all. Though we feel that our loss is her eternal gain, her kind, quiet, and loving disposition will be greatly missed in the home, church, and community. Yet we do not mourn as those who have no hope, but feel that our loved one has gone before to be with her God in eternity. We humbly submit to His will. "The Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away, Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Two of her favorite Scripture verses were Heb. 13:8 and Luke 6:31.
