Dies in Alaska Airplane Crash

Shipshewana, Ind. — Funeral services were held at the Shore Mennonite church near here June 9 for Calvin L. Miller, 34, who lost his life in an airplane crash at Anchorage, Alaska on May 26. Rev. Percy Miller and Rev. Lee Miller officiated.

Mr. Miller, son of Rev. and Mrs.Homor [sic Homer] Miller, was employed as a civilian mechanic at the Elmsdorf Air Force base and also as an instructor in the Alaska Float Plane service. While giving instruction to a student the wing of his plane was sheared off in a collision with another training plane. The damaged plane plunged to earth, carrying both the instructor and student to their deaths. The other aircraft crash landed with only minor injuries to the two occupants.
