MRS. BERTHA J. MILLER

Bertha J. Miller, daughter of Jonas and Fannie Beachy, was born Nov. 30, 1892 at Arthur Ill. She passed away Dec. 10, 1959 at the age of 67 years and 10 days.

Last March she underwent surgery for cancer, and again in August. Each time she was able to come to her home again. Later she gradually began getting weaker until she quietly passed away.

She was baptized and became a member of the Old Order Amish church at Plain City, Ohio. Later she came to Iowa and was married to Sol J. Miller on Dec.7, 1915. He preceded her in death in 1956. They were charter members of the Upper Deer Creek Conservative Mennonite church. She was a faithful member in this church to the end.

She is survived by two sons, Floyd V. of Wellman, Iowa and Ivan E. of Goessel, Kan.; one daughter Fannie, Mrs. Raymond Byler of Altha, Florida; five brothers, Samuel J. of Sarasota, Florida, Annanias J. of Kalona, Iowa, Ben of Pigeon, Mich., Ezra of Goshen, Ind., and Jonas of Riverside, Iowa; five sisters, Mrs. Katie Yoder, Mrs. Sylvanus Miller, Mrs. Andy Beachy and Mrs. Dan S. Yoder, all of Kalona, and Mrs. Henry Yoder of Plain City, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

With the exception of six years during which they lived north of Kalona, most of her married life was spent on a farm in the Wellman community. Since her companion's death she had made her home in a trailer house near the home of her son Floyd. The last four weeks she was [cared?] for by her daughter Fannie. Her patience, kindness and concern were an inspiration to many, especially in this last illness.
