BENJAMIN MELLINGER

Benjamin Mellinger, Rt. 1 Sterling, Ill., a prominent retired farmer, passed away at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Colonial Acres Rest Home, where he had been residing the last five and one-half months.

Mr. Mellinger was born April 9, 1880 in Jordan Township, a son of Henry K. and Emaline Hess Mellinger. He was educated in the local schools and resided in this area all of his life. He was married to Anna L. Andreas Dec. 12, 1901 and she preceded him in death on April 30, 1960.

He farmed in the area all of his life until he retired in 1950. He was a member of the Science Ridge Mennonite Church.

Surviving him are three sons, Howard A. Sterling, Charles A., DeKalb, and Harold B., of Columbus, O.; one daughter, Mrs. Edwin A. Rutt, Sterling; one sister, Mrs. Anna Bare, Sterling; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded by a daughter, Stella, in 1905, and a sister, Mrs. Lillie Barge, June 30, 1961.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Science Ridge Mennonite Church. Bishop A. C. Good and Rev. I. Frederick Erb officiated and burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

A memorial for Science Ridge Mennonite Church has been established.
