MRS. MARIA MATTHIES

Mrs. Maria Matthies was born October 25, 1888 in South Russia and died January 4, 1965 at the Home for the Aged at Vineland, Ontario. She was a widow with eight children when she migrated to Canada in 1925. After two years she remarried to Rev. Gerhard Matthies. She has been a widow since 1949 when her second husband passed away.

After a life of much hard struggle she was called to the Lord. She maintained a strong faith to the end. The funeral was in the Vineland Church with the ministering brethren, Rev. J. M. Schmidt and Rev. Abe Block in charge.

Mrs. Matthies is survived by a brother, Rev. J. Penner at Virgil; 8 children including Helen (Mrs. Henry Wiebe Leamington), Erna (Mrs. Corny Hamm Leamington), Evangeline (Mrs. Neuschwander, Elkhart, Ind.), Marie (Mrs. Paetkau, Virgil); 27 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
