LANCASTER CO. BISHOP CALLED AFTER FIFITY-TWO [sic] YEARS IN THE MINISTRY

Bareville, Pa. — Bishop John S. Mast of the Amish-Mennonite church, residing in the east end of Lancaster county on route 2, Elverson, passed away the evening of Jan. 3. The immediate cause of death was bronchial pneumonia, although he had been in a lingering condition the past few years. His wife died on the same date just 15 years ago.

Bishop Mast had been ordained to the ministry over 52 years ago, and attained the age of 89 years. For many years he had the oversight of the Denbigh, Va. congregation, and had the cherished experience of watching it grow to its present proportions.

Among the few survivors is his only son, C. Z. Mast, well known as a writer among the plain element throughout the East as well as elsewhere. He also leaves three grandsons, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Kurtz.

Funeral services took place Jan. 6 at the Conestoga church.
