Young Amish Farmer Killed in Grain Bin

Sugarcreek, Ohio. — An accident in a grain and drier bin at the Albert N. Schlabach dairy farm near here claimed the life of a young Amish farmer.

Ivan N. Mast, 22, was working in the bin when his clothing apparently caught in a grain auger, causing death by strangulation and crushing injuries to the chest and neck. He was found several hours later by his wife and his employer, Robert Schlabach, who investigated when he failed to return home for lunch.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 21, at the home of his parents, Noah M. and Erma Mast of rural Baltic. Also surviving are his wife, Betty, and a little son of the home, one sister and three brothers.
