MEXICO SETTLER KILLED IN CAVE AWAY FROM HOME

Campo Mission 45

CUAN CHIH., MEX.

July 5, 1938.

. . .

Peter Martins, age 28, a married man, and a cowboy of campo 55 in the Mennonite village of Sommerfeld, was killed on July 1, in a cave. He had gone into the cave, which is close by our settlement, to escape from the rain. Examination of the place where his death occurred showed signs as if lightning had struck within a distance of 10 or 12 yards from where the bank caved in on his body. He had been sleeping face downward, causing his departure.

In the morning, before going to his work, he told his dear wife to take good care of the two little children and then sang a German hymn, No. 107 in the large Hymn Book. He has left many to wonder about the great ways of God.

God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he which we can not comprehend. He sealeth up the hand of every man that all men may know his work. — Jose Francisco Parra.
