Double Funeral For Two Accident Victims

ELVIN WITMER AND LESTER MARTIN FATALLY INJURED IN CANADA

Columbiana, Ohio. — Double funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Aug. 5, at the Pleasant View Mennonite church north of Columbiana for Lester Martin and Elvin Witmer, both 16, who were fatally injured in an automobile accident while on a trip to Canada.

The head-on two-car collision happened at about 6:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 140 miles north of Toronto, Ont., in a dense fog.

Also seriously injured were Homer Witmer, 15, Elvin’s brother, and Jacob Van Pelt, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Pelt, Columbiana. Both were left in the Huntsville, Ont., hospital.

Lester Martin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abr. Martin, Salem, and Elvin Witmer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Witmer, also of the Salem community.

Driver of the car was Kenneth Reesor, 18, of Unionville, Ont., who apparently escaped serious injury. According to information received, none of the passengers of the other car were killed. The youths were on the way to a nearby lake for a day of fishing when the accident occurred.
