Jacob A. Martens, 81

Jacob Martens, a deacon and former leader of the Main Centre, Sask., church, passed away in Clearbrook, B.C., on Jan. 28. He had been partially paralysed and unable to speak since a severe stroke in May, 1951. He bore his affliction cheerfully and was faithfully tended by his wife and daughter Martha.

He was born in S. Russia on Dec. 4, 1880, became a Christian and was baptized in 1900, and married Anna Redekop in 1901. They emigrated to Main Centre in 1904, where they farmed until 1943. He leaves to mourn his wife, 4 sons, 6 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, 4 daughters-in-law, 27 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister. The youngest daughter, Agnes, working with her husband in mission outreach in Switzerland, was not present at the funeral.
