text of obituary:

MILITANT BISHOP DIES IN NEW YORK

In New York, the retired Bishop Wm. T. Manning, 83, of the Protestant Episcopal church died Nov. 18 after a two-weeks illness. As early as 1941 the militant Episcopal leader had urged that the United States enter the war as soon as possible, a statement which caused considerable controversy at that time. Controversial subjects appeared to be to his liking and he often spoke on racial prejudice, labor and capitalism, and the union of all Christian churches, both Catholic and Protestant, into a single church.

Bishop Manning was born in Northampton, England, May 12, 1866.
