MRS JOHN P. LOWENBERG

Mrs. John P. Lowenberg, daughter of Peter and Marie Weber, was born on a farm four and one-half miles northwest of Donnellson in Franklin township, Lee county, Iowa on February 2, 1871.

Last October her health began to fail and about the middle of December she was taken to the Graham Hospital at Keokuk, Iowa, where she submitted to an operation for gall-stones. By the first of January, she was able to return to her home in Donnellson, but several weeks ago other complications set in and she gradually became worse until she passed away on Sunday evening, March 6, 1949, at the age of 78 years one month and four days. She bore her illness bravely and patiently.

On September 18, 1884, Anna Christine Weber was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by Rev. Christian Schowalter and received into the fellowship of the Zion Mennonite church of which she remained a faithful member until her death. She was also a member of the women's missionary society and helped along in the work of the church wherever she could.

On January 20, 1895, she was united in marriage at the home of her parents with John P. Lowenberg. They were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows together for more than 54 years. To this union were born six children, five daughters, Lillian, Minnie, Elma, Verda, Mildred, and one son, Roy J. Lowenberg. They lived on a farm near New Boston, Ia. until the spring of 1943, when they moved to Donnellson.

She was a good wife, a kind loving mother, a helpful neighbor, and appreciated friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, from henceforth, they rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.'"

She was preceded in death by four brothers, August of Summerfield, Illinois, David of Argyle, Ia., Eli of Donnellson, and Rudolph, who died in his youth. The following sisters also preceded her to the Great Beyond: Lydia, wife of William Krehbiel; Selma, wife of Joe Krebill; and Clara E., wife of Will Krebill. Two of her grandchildren, Dorothy Trump and Robert Loges, also preceded her.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her deeply bereft husband; five daughters, Mrs. Earl Trump of Donnellson, Mrs. Clifford White of Argyle, Ia., Mrs. John Logos of Primrose, Ia., Mildred of Keokuk, Ia., and Minnie, at home; one son, Roy J. Lowenberg; three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. J. P. Galle of Donnellson, many nieces and nephews, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, March 9, with her pastor in charge. At 1:30 a brief service was held at the Agnew funeral home. At two o’clock the services were held at the Zion Mennonite church. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Howard Leisy, Mrs. Ernest Krehbiel, Hugo and Herbert A. Lowenberg sang the hymns, "Near to the Heart of God" and “Face to Face With Christ, the Savior.”

Interment was made in the Mennonite cemetery northwest of town.
