Obituary

Sister Mary Holdeman Loucks was born in Wayne County, Ohio, September 3, 1850. some years later she with her parents moved to near Elkhart, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Peter B. Loucks September 20, 1868 and to this union eleven children were born.

In the year of 1873 they came to Kansas as pioneers, settling on a farm near Moundridge, and on this farm she had resided for the past 51 years.

In her twenty-eighth year she became convicted of her lost condition and was converted, taking her refuge to the Lord Jesus, of whom she received forgiveness of sins and peace. She later jointed the Church of God of which she was a faithful member to the end. She passed away at her home near Moundridge May 29, 1931, aged 80 years, 8 months and 26 days. The immediate cause of her death was cancer of the stomach.

Aunt Mary, as most all knew her, was a loving wife and mother, and her deep longing was that her loved ones should serve and believe in the Lord who saved her, so that they might meet her in her eternal home. In her Christian life she was an earnest worker, and witnessed for the Master wherever she went, although she felt her efforts were often made in great weakness and with many mistakes, but with the candid faith that the Lord will reward the faithful not because of results but of faithfulness, and the grace of our dear Lord, whom she trusted to the end.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Anna Bowen of Dallas, texas, Mrs. Laura Trimble of Moundridge, Mrs. Abe Jantz, of Orongo, Mo., and Mrs. Samantha Johnson of Halstead, two sons, Jesse of Copeland, and Jonas of Moundridge. She is also survived by forty-three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six brothers and three sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Meridian church Sunday afternoon officiated by Rev. F. H. Wenger. Pallbearers were six of her nephews, John and Pearle Holdeman of Wadsworth, Ohio, Noah, Lee, Frank W. and Oliver Holdeman. She was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Dear mother thou art not forgotten,
Tho' on earth you are no more,
Still in memory thou art with us,
As thou always wert before.
